The Howrah Bridge is the busiest cantilever bridge in the world, carrying an estimated 100,000 vehicles and 150,000 pedestrians each day. Designed by British engineers and built by a local Indian construction company using a stunning 26,500 tonnes of steel, it is a defining symbol of Kolkata.
